About the app
Is Ledgerly available now?

Not yet. Ledgerly is in active development and has not been submitted to Google Play. When it is, the install link will live on this page. To get a heads-up, send a note to madmaxlabsllc@gmail.com.

Is it free?

The free tier and a small Pro tier for advanced features are still being finalized TBD. We will publish the split here before launch.

Independent of that: the AI features are bring-your-own-key and that does not change. There is no AI subscription, no monthly fee for the Concierge or Wallet Wrapped, and no token markup. You add your own OpenAI API key, calls go from your device to OpenAI directly, and you pay OpenAI for whatever you use. If you never set a key, every non-AI feature still works.

Will it work on iPhone?

Android-only for now. Ledgerly leans on Android-specific APIs (SMS reading, accessibility services, notification access) that don’t exist on iOS in the same form.

Does it work offline?

Yes for every non-AI feature. Capture, the optimizer, the Cashback Bank, goals, alerts, and insights all run on your device with no network. The AI features and any feature that reaches the internet (OpenAI, INR Deals, link previews) need a connection, and you choose when they run.

Privacy and permissions
Does my data leave my phone?

By default, no. Bank SMS, captured order details, your ledger, balances, and forecasts all live on your device. A small set of optional features can send specific data off your phone, and they are all off until you turn them on. The full list is in the privacy policy.

Why does it need SMS access?

So Ledgerly can read the transaction SMS your bank already sends and turn each one into a clean ledger entry. The app does not ask for READ_SMS, which would let it see your existing inbox; it only uses RECEIVE_SMS, which covers new messages from the moment you grant it.

What does the accessibility overlay actually read?

Only the order screens of the merchant apps it knows about (Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy, Zomato, Uber Eats, Amazon, Flipkart, BigBasket, Dunzo, Myntra, Nykaa, Ajio, plus Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm). It reads only when you tap the capture button, and captured details stay on your device. One toggle disables it.

Can I use AI features without sharing my data?

By definition, no. AI features have to send context to OpenAI to answer. That is why they are opt-in: you add your own OpenAI key and only then do they call out. What gets sent is summarized (monthly totals, top merchants, your card list, the question you typed), not your raw transaction list. If you never set a key, every non-AI feature still works.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Ledgerly’s database is removed with the app, the same as any Android app. If you want a copy before uninstalling, use Settings > Backup or the CSV export.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Settings > Data has a full DB backup and a CSV export. Both run on your device and write to a location you choose.

Why is the dashboard showing weird numbers?

Stealth Mode is probably on. When armed, every rupee amount in the app renders as ₹••••• and the dashboard shows believable decoy numbers. Unlock with biometric (or device PIN as fallback). Re-lock policy and screenshot-blocking are configurable in Settings.

Banks, cards, and the optimizer
Which banks are supported?

The SMS canonicalizer covers most major Indian banks, including HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, Kotak, IndusInd, IDFC First, Yes Bank, and more. The full live list will be confirmed against the shipped build TBD. If your bank’s SMS isn’t recognized, you can teach Ledgerly the sender ID.

Which credit cards does the catalog include?

57 cards at the time of writing, across HDFC (Regalia, Millennia, Diners), ICICI (Amazon Pay), SBI (Cashback, Prime), Axis (Magnus, Atlas, Ace), IndusInd (Tiger, Pinnacle), Standard Chartered (Smart), and others. The catalog is bundled with the app, not fetched at runtime, so it works offline. Updates ship in app releases.

How does the card optimizer know my reward rates?

From the bundled catalog. Each card carries its real per-category rates, monthly caps, exclusions, and FX markup, curated by hand and updated with the app.

Why did Ledgerly tag this transaction wrong?

Long-press the transaction to reclassify it. Categories learn: tagging a few transactions from a new merchant teaches the classifier. You can also rename the merchant, mark it as a subscription or a loan, or classify an inflow as a refund, reimbursement, gift, or borrowed money.
